Prices are for a medium sized business using 500 to 1,999 MWh a year (Eurostat band IC), in euro cents per kWh. How to Read These Prices
- Eurostat covers 39 countries in this data, 30 of them with a household price for the first half of 2026. Not every country reports every half year.
- Household prices are for one consumption band, 2,500 to 4,999 kWh a year, which Eurostat itself headlines. A household using much more or much less can pay a different price per kWh.
- Business prices are for one consumption band, 500 to 1,999 MWh a year. Larger and smaller businesses face different prices.
- Eurostat reports three levels: all taxes and levies included, excluding VAT and other recoverable taxes and levies, and excluding all taxes and levies. Taxes and levies differ widely by country, so compare like with like.
- Each country is ranked in the first half of 2026, the newest half year with at least 5 countries reporting. Countries that have not reported it are listed, not ranked.
- These are prices paid by customers, in euro cents per kWh. They are not comparable with the wholesale day-ahead prices on /prices/, which are exchange prices in euros per MWh before network charges, taxes and supplier costs.
- Prices are in euros as published by Eurostat. Changes are nominal and are not adjusted for inflation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which European country has the most expensive electricity for households?
Germany, in the first half of 2026: 36.18 euro cents/kWh with all taxes and levies included, for a typical household using 2,500 to 4,999 kWh a year. Belgium was next at 35.75 euro cents/kWh.
Which European country has the cheapest electricity for households?
Turkey, in the first half of 2026: 6.57 euro cents/kWh with all taxes and levies included. The European Union average for the second half of 2025 was 28.96 euro cents/kWh.
Are these the same as wholesale electricity prices?
No. These are the prices customers are billed per kWh, from Eurostat, in euro cents. Wholesale day-ahead prices on the exchanges are a different measure, in euros per MWh, and are shown separately on the prices pages. This page never combines the two.
How much of a household electricity price is tax?
It varies by country. In the first half of 2026, taxes and levies were 46.9% of the all taxes price in Poland, the highest share, and -9.9% in the Netherlands, the lowest. A negative share means taxes and levies were a net credit that lowered the price.
Where have household electricity prices risen most in five years?
Moldova: +120.0% between the first half of 2021 and the first half of 2026, in nominal euros, so before inflation. Turkey had the smallest change, -21.2%.
