What is the carbon footprint of my electricity?

Enter a country and your home's yearly or monthly kWh, an electric car's distance and efficiency, or an appliance's power and hours. It returns kilograms of CO2 at that country's average carbon intensity (world average 459 gCO2/kWh in 2025), next to the cleanest and dirtiest large grids.

When is electricity cleanest?

Pick one of 104 grid zones and see the typical low carbon share of generation for each hour of the local day, with the best and worst hours marked. It is a pattern from recent days, not a forecast.

How the tools work

  • Small and private. Each tool runs in your browser from figures embedded in the page. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
  • Shareable. The address bar follows your choices, so a copied link reopens the same result.
  • Two layers of data. Country tools use Ember annual statistics. The cleanest hours tool uses grid operator hourly data and never mixes it with Ember figures.
  • Averages, not readings. Annual averages describe a typical kWh over a year; they are not real time or hourly emissions and not forecasts.
