Electricity in July 2026, and Every Month Since August 2024
Demand in the 56 countries with data for both July 2026 and July 2025 was 2,407 TWh in July 2026, up 2.0% on July 2025. Those 56 countries cover 82% of world electricity demand (measured on 2025 demand), so this is a review of the reporting countries, not a world total. Each month below has its own review: demand against the same month a year earlier, low carbon share, the countries that moved most, and the cleanest and dirtiest grids.
Key Facts
- The latest month reviewed is July 2026, with 56 countries covering 82% of world demand.
- 24 months are published, from August 2024 to July 2026.
- Ember has data for August 2026 from 38 countries, but the 38 with a comparable year earlier cover 60% of world demand, below the 60% needed, so it is not published yet.

Each month's demand is the total for that month's countries only, so totals are not comparable from one row to the next; use the change on a year earlier, which compares the same countries in both years.
Which Months Are Published
- Who reports. About 88 countries publish monthly statistics to Ember, some weeks before others. A month uses the countries with a demand figure for that month and for the same month a year earlier, so the comparison is like for like.
- Coverage rule. A month is published only when at least 10 such countries together made up at least 60% of world demand in 2025, Ember's latest full year. This is the same basis as the year so far figure on the home page.
- Never a world total. Every page says how many countries and what share of world demand it covers. It reviews the reporting countries, not the world.
- Newest 24 months. Only the most recent months that pass the rule get a page.
