Download Electricity Data

7 free CSV and JSON files in 4 datasets: electricity generation by fuel, demand, carbon intensity, US grid demand and European cross border flows, with data to 2026-09-19. Each file keeps its source's licence, and each dataset page gives the exact attribution to reuse and a citation to copy.

Numbers in the files are raw values with units in the column names, so they parse in any tool. Display rounding on the site pages does not apply to them.

Key Facts

  • Annual electricity generation, demand and emissions by country: 215 countries, 1985 to 2025, from Ember (CC BY 4.0).
  • Monthly electricity generation and demand by country: 88 countries, 1999-01 to 2026-08, from Ember (CC BY 4.0).
  • US grid region daily electricity demand and generation: 14 US grid regions, 2025-08-15 to 2026-09-19, from U.S. Energy Information Administration (US Government work, public domain).
  • European cross border physical electricity flows: 88 borders, 2026-08-20 to 2026-09-18 (30 days), from ENTSO-E Transparency Platform (ENTSO-E Terms of Use plus CC BY 4.0 for listed data items).

Using the Data

  • Attribution. Credit the original source named on each dataset page. The exact text is there, ready to copy.
  • Two layers. Ember statistics (annual and monthly, every country) and operator data (US grid, European flows) are separate datasets and are never merged into one figure.
  • Not every series is offered. A dataset appears here only when its licence clearly allows republishing it as a file.
  • Charts. Country generation mix, history and carbon intensity charts can be embedded on other sites; the embed code is on each country page.
