Privacy Policy

Privacy policy for World Power Monitor: what Google Analytics receives with and without cookies, how your cookie choice is stored and how to contact us.

Summary

Last updated 2026-10-20 (20 October 2026).

World Power Monitor does not ask you to sign in, does not sell personal data, and does not build a profile of you itself.

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. Google Analytics runs in Google Consent Mode with all storage denied until you choose: before you choose, and if you choose "Accept required", it receives anonymous page view signals that use no cookies and no persistent identifier, but that still reach Google, including your IP address (details below). "Accept required" is as easy as "Accept all" and gives you the whole site, and you can change your mind at any time. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, nothing is sent to Google Analytics at all.

Hosting and Server Logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. That processing is covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Search and Local Storage

Site search runs in your browser from files downloaded from this site. Your searches are not sent to a server. The site stores nothing on your device other than what is described on this page: a small offline cache of the site's own files (made by a service worker, named wpm-shell-v1, no personal data, cleared by clearing site data in your browser), and your consent choice (see below).

Cookies and Local Storage

Before you make a choice, and if you choose "Accept required", the site sets no cookies and Google Analytics uses no cookie and no persistent identifier. Google Analytics does still receive anonymous page view signals, as described under Analytics below. The table lists everything the site can store on your device for them.

wpm-consentLocal storage (not a cookie)Remembers your consent choice and its date so the window is not shown on every page. Holds no identifier.Kept until you clear site data; the site asks again once the choice is 180 days oldThis siteNo, it records your choice
_ga, _ga_*CookieRecognise returning visitors and keep session state so visits can be counted. Set only after "Accept all"; none is set while consent is denied.2 yearsGoogle AnalyticsYes, analytics

An earlier version of the site kept the same choice in a cookie named wpm_consent. If your browser still has it, the site copies a choice that is less than 180 days old into local storage and deletes the cookie, so the site no longer sets any consent cookie. The list changes if Google changes its cookies; see Google's policies for the current detail.

Analytics

Before you choose, and if you choose "Accept required". The site uses Google Analytics 4 in Google Consent Mode with analytics storage, advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalisation all denied. Your browser still requests Google's measurement script after the page has loaded, and sends Google an anonymous signal for each page you open and for the small set of actions listed below. With storage denied these signals use no cookies and no persistent identifier, so Google cannot recognise you on a later visit. They do reach Google, and any request to a server carries technical data: Google necessarily receives your IP address, the address of the page, the referring site and browser details such as language and screen size. Google says that, while consent is denied, it uses such signals for measurement and for statistical modelling only. This data can be processed by Google outside your country, including in the United States; see Google's privacy policy.

If you choose "Accept all". Google Analytics also sets its own cookies, _ga and _ga_*, so it can recognise a returning visitor and group page views into visits. It records page views and a small set of actions (choosing a country on the map, using a tool, sharing a fact, downloading a data file, copying embed code): which page, which country or tool, and technical data such as browser, approximate location from your IP address, and the referring site.

In both cases. We turn off Google signals and ad personalisation for analytics and never send names, emails or anything you type. Google acts as our processor for this data, and reports are kept for 2 months.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, or you visit with an automated browser, the site does not request Google's measurement script at all, so nothing is sent to Google Analytics, whatever you choose in the window.

On your first visit a window in the middle of the page asks for your choice before you use the site. It has two buttons of the same size and style, "Accept required" and "Accept all". "Accept required" gives you the whole site and sets no analytics cookie, although Google Analytics keeps receiving the anonymous, cookieless page view signals described under Analytics; "Accept all" also allows Google Analytics to set its own cookies. The page behind the window is ordinary page content, so search engines and assistive technology can read it. We remember your choice in your browser's local storage, and ask again after 180 days. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal and you have not chosen, we treat it as "Accept required", do not show the window and make no request to Google Analytics. To review or change your choice at any time, use "Cookie choices" in the page footer. Choosing "Accept required" after "Accept all" also deletes the Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_*) from your browser, and withdrawing consent stops cookie based collection from then on (the cookieless signals described under Analytics continue); it does not undo processing already done. You can also clear this site's data in your browser. The window text is available in the site's other languages; those translations are machine written and have not been reviewed by native speakers, and the privacy policy itself is in English.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a copy of personal data about you, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Contact [email protected]. Data held by Google for analytics and advertising is not linked by us to your name, so most requests about it are handled through your Google account controls. You can complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). Residents of some US states have rights to know, delete and opt out of sale or sharing; we do not sell personal data, and refusing advertising or sending Global Privacy Control opts you out of sharing for advertising.
