How Alerts Are Chosen

  • Records mean the loaded history. Demand, wind and solar share and net imports are compared with the 300 to 400 earlier days held in the export for that zone. An alert needs the day to be among the 3 highest (or lowest) of them, and the sentence says which rank and how many days.
  • Price spikes. A day ahead price is flagged when its daily average is at least 2 times the zone's median over the previous 90 days and at least 20 above it, in the zone's own currency. Prices are never converted between currencies.
  • Gaps are ignored. Days with zero or missing demand, days below 70% of the previous 30 day median (a partial report), and sources that read zero for weeks are left out. Zones whose data stopped more than three days before the newest are skipped.
  • Net imports are the negative of the operator's net interchange, and count only when they are at least 5% of the zone's demand that day. Wind and solar share is their sum over net generation, and only when the reported sources add up to within 10% of it.
  • Steady and dated. The same data always gives the same text. At most 6 alerts of a kind are shown per day; a day page says how many were left out. The window is the last 30 days.
