Daily fact Fact #58

-45%carbon intensity since 2015

Since 2015, the United Kingdom has cut the carbon intensity of its electricity by 45%, from 398 gCO2/kWh to 218 gCO2/kWh in 2025.

Both figures are Ember annual statistics. The fall comes from the change in what the United Kingdom burns and generates, not from generating less.
