Capacity vs Generation

Installed capacity is how much power a fleet of plants could produce at any instant if run flat out, measured in gigawatts (GW). Generation is how much energy it actually produced over a period, measured in terawatt hours (TWh). A fuel can lead on capacity and trail on generation, or the reverse: solar panels are cheap to add but only produce in daylight, so a country can have more solar capacity than coal capacity while coal still generates more electricity over a year.
